BeyondAutomation
Accelerating research through lab automation
Tsubame Lab is a tech company dedicated to automating R&D.

The unseen cost of repetition
Researchers’ creative time is being
consumed by repetitive work.
Research design, experiment setup, sample prep, data wrangling, interpretation, verification — research is meant to be creative, yet much of it is spent on repetitive manual work. It is often said that less than 10% of a researcher's time goes to truly essential research.
Unstandardized protocols, person-dependent techniques, and the enormous repeat experiments needed for reproducibility quietly but steadily erode the speed and global competitiveness of drug discovery and materials research.
Solutions
Centered on the custom lab automation we deliver today, we are building the cloud lab — the next generation of research infrastructure. We provide the right automation for every stage of R&D.
Custom Lab Automation
Fully customized experiment-automation systems built to fit your lab's environment.

Case Studies
Which steps did we automate, and how, on the real research floor? A look at representative case studies.

Automated pipetting
Automated dispensing into microplates with an 8-channel head — improving reproducibility and greatly reducing repetitive manual work.

Automated mixing & dispersion
Automating sample mixing and dispersion with vortexers and stirrers for reproducible sample preparation.

Automated measurement (DLS)
Automating everything from sample loading to measurement and recording — raising instrument utilization and throughput for DLS and similar measurements.

Automated liquid extraction (ferrofluids)
Automating the extraction of hard-to-handle liquids, including ferrofluids, with a collaborative robot for stable reproducibility.

Automated chemical synthesis
Automating weighing, dispensing, synthesis and recording as a single sequence — running overnight to give researchers their time back.

Automated transport (desktop)
Automating sample transport between instruments and steps at desktop scale — a space-saving configuration that is easy to adopt.

Organizing our business — three pillars that advance lab automation
We've organized Tsubame Lab's business under one axis, “advancing lab automation,” into three pillars: contract robotics, cloud lab, and platform. Here is the role of each and the bigger picture.

Tsubame Studio, our lab automation platform, released as open source
Tsubame Studio — platform software that unifies control of robotic arms and peripheral instruments — is now open source under GNU AGPL-3.0. A desktop application is slated for release in August 2026.

We've renewed our corporate website
We've fully renewed the Tsubame Lab corporate website. Built around the idea of “Beyond Automation,” it re-expresses the future of R&D we are working toward — and we'll keep accelerating from here.
Let’s design what comes
next for your lab — together.
